“Hyrule Warriors” offers fast-paced action in the “Zelda” universe

Berlin (dpa / tmn) – “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” is one of the best adventure games for Nintendo’s Switch. Many fans consider it one of the best “Zelda” games ever. With “Hyrule Warrios: Time of Devastation” Nintendo has now created an action game that takes place in the same fantastic world and promises a reunion with many popular characters.

The beginning of the end

“Time of Desolation” is set a hundred years before the events of “Breath of the Wild” and tells of the rise of the demonic power of Ganon. The Darkling threatens to devour the entire continent of Hyrule. But heroes like the legendary warrior Link move out to confront Ganon and his host of monsters.

As the name suggests, “Hyrule Warriors” is an offshoot of the “Dynasty Warriors” series. That means: In contrast to other “Zelda” games, this is less about big stories and tricky puzzles, but more about action-packed mass battles.

Players can largely freely choose which battle they will go into next on a map. If a fight is won, further missions are unlocked. And at the same time Link and other heroes can improve their skills and collect new powers – including bombs or the possibility of freezing opponents, already known from “Breath of the Wild”.

Hordes of enemies – and numerous friends

The opponents are usually clearly in the majority in the battles – but you are almost never completely alone: In the course of the adventure, players meet more and more heroes from the “Zelda” universe who join Link, Zelda and Co. If there is a battle, several heroes can be led into the field at the same time, between which you can switch back and forth at the push of a button.

“Hyrule Warriors: Zeit der Verheerung” manages to pack the unique atmosphere of the role-playing game “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” into a fast-paced action game – including the beautiful, hand-drawn graphics and the dreamy piano soundtrack. “Zelda” fans will not get around this game, despite all the unusual action.

“Hyrule Warriors: Time of Devastation” by Omega Force and Nintendo is available for Nintendo Switch and is approved for ages 12 and up. The action game costs around 50 euros.
