Are you thinking of buying a smartwatch with WearOS? Don’t do it now!

Qualcomm has just unveiled the new Snapdragon Wear 4100 and 4100+ processors. These chips are made for smartwatches and promise to bring a considerable improvement over the models we have on the market. So, if you have a smartwatch on the shopping list and you have WearOS, you better not scratch the card now!

In 2018 Qualcomm revealed the Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor to us. An improved chip and finally brought decent autonomy to smartwatches. Now, the new processors promise even more.

Finally WearOS smartwatches will be able to compete with Apple Watch

It’s about time. According to Qualcomm, these new chips have seen considerable improvement. Starting with its size. The processors are 12nm, compared to the previous 22nm model.

Qualcomm also said that processors will bring 25% more autonomy to smartwatches and an 85% performance improvement. In other words, we have almost twice the improvement in performance. And I needed it.

As much as smart watches with WearOS were attractive, their use was poor and tedious. The autonomy was only decent if the Snapdragon 3100 was inside and even so, it left something to be desired.

The differences between Snapdragon Wear 4100 and 4100+

The differences are not many, however, considerable for a watch. Smartwatches that bring the “Plus” model of the processor, will have the possibility of having “Ambient display”.

That is, a screen always on. The other big difference is in sleep monitoring and the most accurate monitoring of heart beats. This is because the 4100+ offers a chip dedicated to these details.

When smartwatches will arrive with these new processors

Smartwatches with these new processors are expected to arrive in 2020. Therefore, if you were thinking of buying a new smartwatch with WearOS, it is better to wait a little longer. You will not regret it!
