Elon Musk becomes seventh richest person in the world

Last week, Elon Musk became the seventh richest person in the world, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Thanks to an 11% rise in Tesla’s shares, the entrepreneur’s fortune rose by $ 6.1 billion, bringing it to a total of $ 70.5 billion. With the amount, Musk overtook Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway.

Much of the South African capital is invested in Tesla shares. Elon Musk owns about a fifth of the automaker’s outstanding shares. It is worth mentioning that, in 2020 alone, the company’s shares rose 269%. In addition, Musk has a majority stake in SpaceX, earning the entrepreneur about $ 15 billion.

Another point that helped Musk overtake Buffet was the recent $ 2.9 billion donation that the American investor made to charity. Now 89, the investor has donated more than $ 37 billion in Berkshire Hathaway shares since 2006. In addition, the company’s performance on the stock exchanges has been below expectations.

The two entrepreneurs have exchanged barbs in recent years. Waren Buffett said that while Musk is “a notable guy”, he has “room for improvement” in his behavior as a CEO, highlighting his habits on Twitter. On the other hand, in an interview in May, Tesla’s CEO stated that he is not the “biggest fan” of the American. “Is he trying to find out if Coca-Cola or Pepsi deserves more capital? I mean, boring work, if you ask me,” he said.
