Facebook launches the latest Global Report on the State of SMEs and new tools – MDZ Online

He Global Report on the State of SMEs, based on the Future of Business survey, is a Facebook investigation in collaboration with the Organization for Economic Development Cooperation (OECD) and the World Bank. For six months, he interviewed small and medium-sized businesses around the world to reflect on their experiences in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.


The report includes the following data on Argentine SMEs:

  • 87% of SMEs reported that they were operating or participating in income-generating activities.
  • Trend: 70% (May) – 73% (June) – 81% (July) – 78% (August) – 80% (September) – 87% (October).
  • 86% of SMEs led by women and 87% of SMEs led by men reported that they were operating or participating in income-generating activities.
  • Trend in SMEs led by women: 62% (May) – 83% (June) – 78% (July) – 82% (August) – 72% (September) – 86% (October).
  • 55% of operating SMEs reported that last month’s sales were lower compared to the same period of the previous year.
  • Trend: 58% (May) – 61% (June) – 58% (July) – 56% (August) – 51% (September) – 55% (October).
  • 35% of SMEs operating on Facebook have reduced the number of employees as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Trend: 28% (May) – 24% (June) – 30% (July) – 21% (August) – 29% (September) – 35% (October).
  • 21% of SMEs expect cash flow to be a challenge in the coming months.
  • Trend: 26% (May) – 32% (June) – 29% (July) – 20% (August) – 23% (September) – 21% (October).
  • 51% of SMEs operating on Facebook report that 25% or more of their sales were made digitally in the last month.
  • Trend: 55% (May) – 59% (June) – 61% (July) – 51% (August) – 55% (September) – 51% (October).
  • 59% of the owners of SMEs operating in October are optimistic about the future of their business.
  • Trend: 53% (May) – 52% (June) – 60% (July) – 54% (August) – 60% (September) – 59% (October).
  • 41% of SMEs operating on Facebook reported during October that the proportion of digital sales increased compared to the period prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The IV Global Report on the State of SMEs was based on data from 25,000 SMEs (owners, managers and employees in more than 50 countries, collected from October 23 to 31) and is an x-ray of the challenges faced by operating SMEs in Facebook.

In addition, the platform continues to work on initiatives that help businesses overcome the devastating consequences of the pandemic. Through the Data for Good program, Facebook incorporates four new data packages: Business Trends, Travel Zones, Economic Insights from Symptom Surveys, and recent Future of Business survey results, to help nonprofits and local officials to identify those foci that need more support.
