“Flight Simulator”: Microsoft calls the launch date

Microsoft might have thought that dreaming would be allowed. The developer announces a new game in the middle of the corona pandemic that will make travel enthusiasts take off despite all prohibitions.

Microsoft’s new flight simulator is scheduled for release on August 18. The exact name of the flight simulator game has not yet been determined, but it will replace the “Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition”, which has been on the market since the end of 2014.

The new version is said to offer around 37,000 airports, including Tenzing-Hillary Airport (Code: VNLK) in northeastern Nepal, better known as Lukla Airport. With its runway in the middle of the Himalayas, which is only 500 meters short and steeply inclined to the slope, it is considered one of the most dangerous airports in the world.

Live traffic and real-time weather

In addition, there are countless new landscapes, mountains, roads, rivers, buildings, trees or animals – all almost photo-realistic, as the company says. Hobby pilots should also be able to look down on live traffic, fly through real-time weather and experience automatic day and night changes.

In addition, the Xbox Game Studios and Asobo Studio as developers have integrated many new, detailed planes from the two-seater propeller to the traffic jet into the game. The cockpits and instruments should be reproduced true to the original.

Not everyone is allowed to fly the Dreamliner

The game for Windows PC and Xbox appears in three versions (Standard, Deluxe, Premium Deluxe) within which the number of available planes and airports varies. The Airbus A320 Neo or the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental are available as aircraft. Boeing’s 787-10 Dreamliner is reserved for buyers of the Premium Deluxe Edition.

The prices start at around 70 euros. Anyone who has an Xbox Game Pass should be able to use the Flight Simulator as part of the subscription. The minimum PC system requirements are 150 gigabytes (GB) of free hard disk space, a Core i5-4460 or AMD Ryzen 3-1200 processor and an Nvidia GTX770 or Radeon RX 570 graphics card.
