Forza players can be banned for using extremist symbols on cars

New company policy against iconographies that represent extremist groups or related to hate speech; American Confederate flag was included in the ban

Gamers in the Forza series have some freedom to customize their cars in the game, and may even include their own custom designs. However, this autonomy is about to change, as Microsoft has announced a new zero-tolerance policy against iconographies that represent extremist groups or symbols related to hate speech.

Starting this week, players who use such images in customizing their vehicles will have their creations taken down and, in the event of recurrences, their accounts may be banned from games altogether. The move holds true for both the Horizon series and the Forza Motorsport titles.

Also according to Microsoft, the move aims to make the experience with the Forza series safer and more inclusive for all players. Among the symbols that represent “notorious iconography”, such as Nazi images, the American Confederate flag was also included in the ban.

This is because the symbol can be related to the conduct of supremacists and white nationalists contrary to the anti-racism manifestations of the “Black Lives Matter” movement (Black Lives Matter, in English), which broke out in the USA over the past few weeks.
