Sony wants to make its consoles the ‘best place to develop, find and play great indie games’
Sony is announcing the launch of an initiative to highlight and support the development of independent games (Indies) on its platforms. With PlayStation Indies, the company hopes to “make PlayStation the best place to develop, find and play great indie games”.
According to Shuhei Yoshida, executive responsible for the initiative, “the indie community is becoming increasingly important for the future of the gaming industry, as the development of AAA games has become so expensive that it is increasingly difficult for large companies to take risks. invest in new concepts that may or may not work. “
“We trust indie developers with a strong vision, to show us ideas that have never been seen before, creating game genres and advancing the art and sense of games,” he says. “PlayStation has always embraced games with innovative concepts, like PaRappa the Rapper, Katamari Damacy, LittleBigPlanet, and Journey, and we can’t wait to find out what amazing ideas are going to be next!”
Along with the initiative are being announced nine games from independent producers: Worms Rumble, Haven, Heavenly Bodies and Maquette will be released for PS4 and PS5. Carto, Creaks, Where the Heart Is and FIST – Forged in Shadow Torch will arrive on PS4, and Recompile to be exclusive to PS5.
