Apple Pay starts to be more and more usual in Portugal. In fact, in times of a pandemic it was an incentive for the State and companies. Contacless payment is an advantage and Apple Pay is not considerably safer than with a card since it requests fingerprint or FaceID.
Santander is the next bank in Portugal to have the technology. In his Twitter account it was revealed that the service will be available to his customers soon.
Santander announces Apple Pay to its customers
Unfortunately, it was not mentioned when the technology will be officially available. However, we have seen in the past with other banks that after the first disclosure it is a matter of weeks before it becomes fully available.
Therefore, Santander is one of the banks that gives us the possibility to activate Apple’s payment service. It remains for us to know when Google decides to bring Google Pay to our country as well.
All banks with Apple Pay service
- Agricultural Credit
- FNAC (CaixaBank Payments & Consumer)
- Millennium BCP
- Santander (coming soon)
The list grows more and more and it is becoming more relevant for the bank to have these services in its portfolio. Personally, I am one of those who joined one of these services to use Apple Pay in our country.
I have been using this service since 2015 (in the United Kingdom) and I have to admit that I felt a little sad when I arrived in Portugal and my bank did not offer it. Apple Pay is practical and secure and if you have an iPhone and a compatible bank, dare to try it out.
