Tesla’s electric cars have a huge advantage over other competitors. The autopilot may not even be perfect, but it is getting better.
Lately we have seen something that was not usual in this feature. Watching a Tesla car drifting aggressively to avoid an accident. Initially, in a situation identical to the bottom video, Tesla would simply apply the brakes and reduce the speed so that the impact would be less.
Video shows Tesla on autopilot reacting “aggressively”
Note that the word “aggressive” is not pejorative in this respect. In fact, it is only with this aggressive change of direction that the Tesla autopilot (or a human) could avoid one of these possible accidents.
As you can see in the video above, it would not be easy to avoid this accident. Even if you were super aware of the road. It was getting dark, the deer appears out of nowhere and the speed was considerably high.
Tesla autopilot to avoid accidents
The autopilot cannot (and should not) be looked at as 100% safe. In fact, Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, says that all drivers on autopilot must be constantly on the road.
However, it is one more measure that arrives to give more security to the vehicle. There are many cases that we know of accidents and as much as the cars have been safer over the years, it remains one of the biggest causes of death in the world. Therefore, anything that can help to reduce this number is well received.
